Treatment of sore throat

Sore throat is a common health problem, and some natural methods can help treat sore throat and relieve its symptoms, here are the most prominent drinks to treat sore throat.

Sore throat causes pain and difficulty swallowing, which leads to a decrease in appetite despite the body’s need for nutrients that help recovery.

A set of drinks can be used to treat sore throats, relieve pain and speed up recovery from it.

Drinks for sore throat

Here are the most prominent drinks to treat sore throat, which are recommended to consult a doctor about:

1. Pomegranate juice

Pomegranate juice may help prevent infections in the throat and reduce inflammation thanks to the nutrients that are available in it.

Freshly squeezed pomegranate juice is easy to make at home by placing pomegranate cloves in water with an electric mixer, then filtering it and eating it, preferably without adding sugar to it. 

2. Sage tea

Sage tea is one of the best drinks for sore throats, it can help relieve inflammation and pain.

It is advisable to add a spoonful of dried sage to hot water, leave it a little, then filter and eat. 

3. Ginger tea

Ginger tea is one of the most prominent drinks to treat sore throats, and ginger is available in more than one form, whether powder or grass that can be grated, contains anti-inflammatory properties, and may help relieve sore throat by reducing swelling and pain.

Ginger tea is made by boiling a spoonful of chopped fresh ginger in half a liter of water, more ginger can be added for a stronger flavor.

4. Green tea

Warm green tea can help relieve sore throat and speed up recovery, thanks to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Green tea is good for health and safe to use, and it is easy to make it in the usual tea way by adding boiled water to it. 

5. Licorice drink

In addition to soothing a sore throat, licorice can help relieve congestion and reduce inflammation.

You can gargle your mouth with licorice, chew a piece of licorice root or drink licorice. 

6. Red elm tea (Slippery elm)

It is also known as Indian Elm, which helps to relieve irritation of the mucous membranes in the mouth by forming a protective film, thereby reducing sore throat.

The benefits of slippery elm can be obtained by taking lozenges or taking tea made from it.

7. Warm liquids

In general, the intake of warm liquids, such as: chamomile tea, caffeine-free tea with lemon juice and honey, or warm water with lemon and honey, helps to soothe a sore throat.

These warm fluids also help to improve the elimination of mucus, reduce congestion and maintain body moisture, which are important during the treatment of congestive inflammation. 

8. Marshmallow plant infusion (Althaea)

The marshmallow plant is used to treat sore throats, as it contains a substance such as mucilage that envelops and lubricates the throat during swallowing.

And to eat marshmallow roots, about 28 g of these dried roots are wrapped in a cotton cloth, added to a liter of cold water, cover the jar and leave for at least 8 hours or overnight.

And in the morning the required amount is poured into a glass and taken, preferably taking sips of it throughout the day to reduce symptoms.

9. Cinnamon drink

Cinnamon contains high levels of antioxidants and antibacterial agents, and may help treat colds, flu, and sore throats.

You can take cinnamon tea or make almond milk with cinnamon for more benefit, using the following ingredients:

  • A glass of almond milk.
  • Half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon.
  • 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda.
  • A tablespoon of cinnamon.

To make an almond milk drink with cinnamon, cinnamon and baking soda are mixed in a saucepan, then almond milk is added to them and re-mixed, and the mixture is heated until it starts to boil, then removed from the heat, sweetened with honey and eaten. 

10. Mint tea

Peppermint has anti-inflammatory properties, helps soothe the throat and relieve pain.

To make mint tea, fresh mint leaves are soaked in boiling water for 3 to 5 minutes, then filtered from the water and consumed.

11. Chamomile tea

Chamomile tea may help fight infection and reduce pain, and is a natural sedative for sore throats, making it one of the most important drinks to treat sore throats.

Chamomile tea also contributes to a feeling of relaxation and enhances the quality of sleep.
